Here's your chance to own a rare 20 year old Japanese made Fender bass for about the price of a used Fender Made In Mexico (MIM) bass.

Color - Fender Japan has always offered a ton of colors. I've listed the bass as Ocean Turquoise but it could actually be any number of colors. It looks a little darker and greener than Daphne Blue or Sonic Blue. It also looks a little lighter and bluer than Sea Foam Green or Surf Green. In any case, 20 years of playtime have caused whatever the original color was to morph into a cool light blueish-green.

Condition: This bass has been a player. There are numerous bumps and bruises, mostly on the edges of the body. There are no major chunks or wood damage. The neck is straight and the set-up is excellent. Overall, the condition is a 7/10 because of finish scratches and bruises.

Serial Number - Unlike most Japanese Fender guitars and basses, the Made In Japan and Serial Number waterslides are on the front of the headstock, not the base of the back of the neck. While this is rare, the serial number was sometimes put on the headstock in the early 90s. The bass has a T serial number, dating it to 1995. There is also a small 2 embossed on the back side of the headstock. This is hard to see as it is small and not very deep, but you can make it out on the photo of the back of the headstock. I've been told that Fender Japan does this when there is a finish flaw caught by inspection before the guitar leaves the factory. There are never any other structural or build flaws that result in an instrument being stamped with a 2; it is always for finish. The rest of the bass is up to Fender Japan's high quality standard. Since this guitar is twenty years old and has substantial playwear, there is no way to tell which of the "dings" came from the factory and which from normal use. 

This is a great find for any collector of Japanese Fenders or just a really solid instrument for way under what you would normally pay for a Japanese Fender bass.
