Brian Ray is the legendary session guitarist most well-known for his work with Paul McCartney and Etta James. Ray is a true musical chameleon, being able to play a wide spectrum of genres at an expert level, as well as a fabulous songwriter and musical director. Throughout his 40 year and counting career, he has primarily relied on Gibson guitars as his tools of the trade. In 2015 Gibson released a limited run of Brian Ray ’63 SG Standard’s to commemorate his timeless contributions to the world of Rock ‘n Roll and beyond.
We are pleased to present a stunning example of this run of Brian Ray ’63 SG’s in the VOS format. The unique black and gray color is dubbed “Silver Fox,” and the guitar is as swift and nimble as its namesake. The combination of the slim, lightweight body and ‘60s neck profile makes for a very comfortable and easy-playing guitar that is dynamic and responsive. Additionally, the Bigsby with the Vibramate allows for “non-invasive,” easy customization of the bridge if you prefer a stop tailpiece. The ’57 Classic and CustomBucker pickups give all the breadth and depth you expect from classic SG tone, while the coil-splitting features provide access to punchy, light single-coil profiles. Overall, this is a gorgeous and unique SG that is a perfect players-grade guitar as well as a collector’s item.
