Anyone who knows Rickenbacker bases knows this is an extremely rare beast. From my emails to John Hall, when I acquired this bass, he estimated somewhere around 200 4002 were ever made. In fact, looking back at the Rickresource forum, the "rare as hen's teeth" quote seems to have come from my query.
1984 Walnut 4002 fretless in near mint condition. Plays great, sounds great. I've been the steward of this exceedingly rare Rickenbacker for 17 years. One of two known factory fretlesses to exist (via the Rickresource forum and Registry.
As seen in the photos it has three minor dings. 1. Chip in finish on upper bout 2. Small dents in finish in rear upper bout 3. Ding on lower side of head stock
Additionally, one minor modification has been made to the nut. The E-string slot was slightly widened to accommodate a B-string. The bass is currently strung with TI-Jazz Flat and tuned CGDG. A new nut may be required.
