Here’s a 1976 Gibson Marauder S-1 made at the original Gibson factory in Kalamazoo Michigan USA.
The model and serial sticker on the backside of the neck is printed Marauder and the truss rod cover and pickguard assembly are certainly from an S-1.
The guitar was originally natural wood finish-which just doesn’t rock hard enough.
Therefore, the guitar body has been professionally finished in nitrocellulose lacquer paint in Gibson Alpine White with a toned edge to give it that natural aged look.
It was then hand buffed so it looks like a 40-year old original paint finish that has been well cared for Coupled with the black pickguard-I think it looks totally amazing. So do you, right?
I’m glad we agree.
The finish on the body is in very nice condition with a minimal of handling evidence. There is some rub wear on the inside edge of the horn-see photos. Underneath the pickguard-the body has been routed and the factory seam was reinforced-see photos. The pickguard fits perfectly and is free of warpage. The neck joint is solid.
The neck feels nice and smooth and it is straight. The nut is the desirable classic Gibson width: 1 11/16” wide.
The tuners are newer kluson deluxe units and work perfectly and smoothly. The headstock has the typical drying out checks in the factory wing joints and it is stable. The logo displays great. The string height is set low for a fast and easy action. The guitar plays very nicely and there are no dead spots anywhere. The maple fingerboard is clean and in great condition. The frets have been leveled, contoured and polished. They are in very nice condition and appear close to new condition and height. The pickups all have a clear and strong signal and the rotary selector switch functions smoothly. All controls function smoothly with no static. The factory harmonica bridge functions and the stop tailpiece keeps the sustain alive well. The tops of the bridge posts have the typical worn down locator nubs but function well. These pieces typically sell for about $15.00 if you wish to replace them.
The original potentiometers date to December 1975 and the stamp on the neck is November 1976. The wiring harness is all original.
The guitar is a lot of fun to play and sounds and looks killer.
It’s ready to go with you on stage, in the studio or just on the couch-it doesn’t care.
This guitar is a great affordable vintage Gibson that won’t be confused with a reissue ever.
Comes complete with quality hard case
