In the late 1950s Ricky Nelson was a "rock star" long before the word even existed. He was a huge influence on an entire generation of aspiring teenage musicians, including a young Brad Whitford. He placed 53 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1957 and 1973. He recorded 19 additional top ten hits. In 1973, after a long absence from the public eye, he scored a surprise hit with "Garden Party" that peaked at 36 on billboard's Hot 100. He died in 1985 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
Nelson purchased this Fender Twin amp at Parlier's Music Co. in Bakersfield CA in 1968. Parlier's Music was the epicenter of the Barkersfield music scene at the time. The amp was initially purchased for legendary steel guitarist Tom Brumley to use in Nelson's Stone Canyon Band. Nelson continued to use the amp both live and in recording with his Stone Canyon Band until 1974. He also used the amp in his home music room. Some of the recordings it can be heard on include "In Concert At The Troubadour", "Rudy The Fifth", "Garden Party" (single and album) and "Windfall". At some point the original speakers were replaced with a pair of Mojo Tone Ceramics.
His son's Matthew and Gunar also used the amp to record their 1990 album "After The Rain".
Brad Whitford was informed that the amp was available in Nashville and purchased it in 2014.
Acquired directly from Brad Whitford. Brad's guitar tech personally inspected the amp and confirmed it was in excellent working condition with no notable issues. It includes a certificate of authenticity signed by Brad Whitford and complete documentation signed my Ricky Nelson's son Matthew Nelson.
