1978 Hamer Standard

A little honest wear but overall clean, no breaks, mostly straight save for Grover tuners (Schallers would most likely have been installed at the time it was made), 2 replaced pots, and 1 added strap button, but original finish, frets, pickups, factory transparent control cavity cover, etc., and of course, no breaks. An early-production (serial number under 200) Hamer Standard from when the company was a very small operation - more of a custom shop than than a factory - and we’re not kidding, it’s unbelievably cool. So, essentially a very high-quality Explorer copy with Les Paul Standard features such as a bound fingerboard with crown inlays and a flame maple top in cherry sunburst. Other features include nitrocellulose lacquer finish, 24.75” scale length, 1 & 11/16” nut width, Honduran mahogany body with glued-in Honduran mahogany neck, a pair of DiMarzio PAFs made to Hamer’s specs, with a zebra-bobbin underwound neck pickup and a double-white in the bridge, Tune-o-matic bridge and stoptail, and bell knobs. This particular is 100% structurally, plays great, balances well, is quite light at 8.5 pounds, and comes in its original hard case. Cheap Trick’s Tom Petersson and Rick Nielsen were early adopters of guitars and basses built by their fellow Illinoisans at Hamer, and Rick Nielsen’s checkerboard Standard is an iconic rock guitar for the ages. These are quite scarce - in fact, we’ve seen more ’59 Bursts than ‘70s Hamers in the last 20 years or so. A great and pretty wild guitar from an interesting period in the history of American electric guitar manufacturing.
