the multiples panel consists of three sets of four phone jacks. each set of jacks has been wired together: tip to tip, sleeve to sleeve. they are also linked (or "cascaded") via 2 switching jacks in the upper left-hand corner of the bottom 2 groups.
this permits multiple distribution of one signal to several different places. this process is often called signal splitting. multiples are used for many purposes; from linking two patch cords together, sending a single signal to several different modules at the same time, to doubling or tripling the amplitude of a signal by sending it x3 to a particular source.
