Here we have a period-correct 12” deep x 15” across Ludwig concert tom from what has to be the mid to late 1970’s. Huge sound! Remo Coated Ambassador head with only a few hours on it. I bought this with the matching 18”x18” floor tom and 14”x24” bass drum in 2011, and they have been kept in a climate controlled & dehumidified environment for the last 11 years. I kept the other drums and added smaller rack toms. They all came in this condition without badges - the lugs alone are a dead giveaway for Ludwig.

6-ply maple/poplar construction, which Ludwig apparently implemented sometime in the ‘76-‘77 model years. “Mahogany” is my best guess on the finish name, but there might be a more specific name that Ludwig called this back then. Only letting it go because I recently added some smaller toms to my kit, and without a place to put it, I’d love to see it go to a good home.

The drum is player grade, with its share of age-appropriate road wear / signs of use. The shape is pristinely in round. Hoop is in good condition, nice and round as well. All hardware accounted for (except the original tom mount) and is original, matching hardware. There are some chips/dings/scratches throughout the exterior of the drum, but none of which affect the playability. Interior is extremely clean. The plies are equally consistent/cohesive all the way around, with no separation, swelling, or unwanted inconsistencies. Please see photos for detail.

It is drilled for a traditional Ludwig tom mount, but it came without said hardware. It fits great in a snare stand, but I found more flexibility with the Atlas mount, and have used it as a rack tom as well as a floor tom in this fashion. Sounds great recorded with a mic underneath.

I’ve done a good amount of investigating forums and old Ludwig catalogs to gather as much info on this drum as possible without a serial number - feel free to do the same. If you happen to find out something I don’t - please let me know!

This would make a great project drum if you’re particular about appearances but like the size - but make no mistake this tom needs nothing to sound and/or play perfectly. Slap it on a snare stand and you’re good to go!
