My vintage HiFi journey began in 1972– when today’s vintage HiFi was contemporary. As a wide eyed twelve-year-old (as often as possible) visiting the local HiFi shops to ogle at the new Marantz, Sansui, SAE Pioneer, Technics, AR Kenwood, Carver, JBL, Ohm, ESS, KLH and Other quality gear. Budget realities resulted in the purchase of a used reciever from Radio Shack and speakers from local dump. However, an oath was made, and honored. Fast forward decades later, I have had the good fortune of acquiring multiple pieces of vintage HiFi gear on a monthly basis – comparing, testing and restoring them when needed. Here is another Vintage item from a local Florida collector. It’s just in today. Yamaha CR-620 Natural sound reciever in good condition. It was cleaned and serviced at the local Technician’s shop it came out excellent. It sounds magnificent and is serviceable with transistors not IC power packs on the outputs. I like the 3 triple tone controls giving the listeners a loudness option for that rich warm Soundstage we all like. The case is in good shape showing it’s age and is not perfect. There are visible imperfections
Description The Yamaha CR-620 is a high performance AM/FM stereo receiver, with excellent selectivity, sensitivity, low distortion, and high output power.
It has accurately matched all the performance specifications, functions, and controls, giving overall performance which fully measures up to Yamaha's high standards for separate tuners, pre- and power amps.
The CR-620 offers an extremely wide range of output powers for which both noise and distortion are below the rated value, for the widest possible dynamic range in actual use. This was the basic design concept for the audio section.
The sophisticated Direct Assessment of Differential Gain technique enables Yamaha to combine high station-getting ability, razor-sharp tuning, and ultra-low distortion in the tuner section. Both signal strength and center-zero FM tuning meters are provided on the CR-620, with the signal strength meter doubling as a signal quality meter on FM.
Both Bass and Treble controls have completely 'flat' central positions, so that the equivalent of a Defeat position is achieved. High and Low Filters are also provided.
Whatever your normal maximum listening level, this Yamaha 'special' enables full compensation for the ears' reduced sensitivity to bass and treble frequencies at lower listening levels.
