At first blush this may appear to be your run-of-the-mill production Mosrite of California Joe Maphis Model Mark XVIII doubleneck electric guitar from the second half of the 1960s, but it very much is not. Unlike the production versions which sport a solid body and came in one of four finishes (Sunburst, Candy Apple Red, Ink Blue, Pearl White), this particular example is much more akin to the single neck versions with a bound spruce top and hollowed out walnut back. The serial number 2J438 is stamped into the end of the 12-string fretboard. The guitar has been well-used as is evidenced by the general wear throughout as well as the buckle rash. Pots have been replaced, as have the 6-string neck's tuners. The 6-string fretboard has also been refretted with larger stock, likely in the '70s; the 12-string neck retains its original Mosrite speed frets. The celluloid tortoise shell pickguard has curled at the treble side of the 6-string's neck pickup. The walnut back also has two remaining screw holes from additional strap buttons that have since been removed. With original hardshell case.
