This is a very fine, top grade sarangi from the early part of the twentieth century. it is very clearly made by a master of the art during the golden age of sarangi lutherie and has the inlay and appointments of a top grade instrument from a top tier builder.
the instrument sounds the part of a top grade instrument. I restored the instrument (slight crack stabilization, repairing and replacing some bone parts, replacing leather strap for bridge) and set it up according to my liking. other than needing a few sympathetic strings replaced it is ready to be tuned and played.
the instrument is around 100 years old, but still has life left and plays and sounds wonderful. it will likely need to be setup for a player interested in purchasing it and I might set it up for someone if they can provide me adequate information about setup preferences. I prefer that this instrument go to someone who already plays sarangi and can appreciate the beauty this instrument has to offer. these instruments are nearly impossible to find. the price reflects its quality, it's pedigree, and the time I spent restoring it. I won't let it go easily or to just anyone.
please ask questions and let me know if you would like to see more detailed photos of anything in the instrument.
