Ovation had always tried to innovate when it came to producing their line of electric guitars. (Preacher, Deacon, Breadwinner etc....). The UK II (Ultimate Kaman) was no exception. The body was made with a Urelite foam on an aluminum frame with mahogany "grain" front and back on the sunburst models. It does have a genuine 2 pc. honduras mahogany , bolt on neck with a bound, select ebony fingerboard highlighted by some unique inlays. A factory brass nut (1 11/16") and nice gold Schallers make tuning smooth and stable. There's no visible fret wear on the 24 medium jumbo frets. Profile would be considered slim "C" shape. Ovation electronics are always excellent and this harness is unmolested ( pots date to 1978). These original, blade style humbucking pickups are powerful and versatile. It has the usual 3 way toggle switch with volume and tone controls for each pickup. There is also a mini slide switch housed in the mounting rings that offers series/ parallel for each pickup, providing several tonal combinations. These pickups are precision wound at a whopping 21.6K (series) in the bridge position and 5.6K (parallel). Neck position is 21.5 (series) and 5.5K (parallel). They are really fat and slightly dark in series, but in the parallel mode they sound fantastic like a cross between a Gretsch and a Rickenbacker. It weighs in at 7.4 lbs. Acoustically, you can hear that there's no wood in the body but it's loud and sounds unique for a pleasant, unplugged playing experience. If that ain't enough, it comes equipped with stereo and mono output jacks. It appears to be all original except for the truss rod cover. I got it without one and realized that a vintage Gretsch one is almost identical, so that's what I put on it. Also, after researching images of other examples, it appears that the white toggle tip should be black. I replaced it after photo shoot. A period correct Ovation truss cover is probably fairly easy to find online if you so desire. There's only a couple of dings in the finish that have been touched up and aren't very noticeable. This thing is in super clean overall condition, which is why it's priced at the top end of Reverb's suggested range. It comes with the original Ovation hard shell case. The lid strap is broken, which is common on most older cases of this style. I have to stop myself from wanting to keep really cool guitars such as this one, but if it doesn't sell quick, I'll be keeping this one. This is what you get when artistic design meets technology in a 70s retro styling that feels and sounds awesome. I know that some of you want this and it can be yours just by fingering your mouse.
