Marshall Super Lead 100 watt Plexi (model 1959) clone

This is a Marshall Super Lead model 1959 , 100 watt “PLEXI” clone of the late sixties. No expense was spared when building this amplifier. I’m a guitar amplifier builder in Chicago and I build these types of vintage amps only a few times a year, (approximately 7 to 8 amps). This particular amp is built with the following components:  

• PEC Potentiometers - (these high quality, mil-spec, 2 watt pots are the truest taper I’ve ever used and sound best).
• Ferraz Shawmut high quality fuse holders.
• Sozo NextGen capacitors. John Gaynor did an excellent job recreating the vintage “mustard” caps with this line. When broken in after 100 hours, they settle in and sound even better.
• F&T and KEMET electrolytic capacitors.
• Custom fabricated FR4 board material with turrets for the all components.
• Custom fabricated steel chassis with Zinc coating and custom front and rear “plexi” plates (made to my specs).
• Mullard Tubes in the power amp section and V2 and V3 also Mullards (made in Russia). The tube in the V1 position is a 7025/12AX7 Preferred Series from the Tube Store. This is a more “rugged version” of the 12AX7 family and is best to guard around microphonics.
• Vintage Amphanol power tube sockets and high quality preamp sockets.
• Classictone Transformers (these are not made anymore because Magnetic Components closed and now are highly sought-after). The set includes power, output and choke: 40-18046, 40-18026 and 40-18056 respectively.
• The head cabinet is a Sourmash high quality cabinet that is bottom insulated with copper tape to keep things as quiet as possible.

I’ve compared this and other amps I’ve built of this type to the originals, and they’ve held their own. Sound is subjective, but I, as well as numerous guitarists that have heard my amps agree.

The amps I build and sell are brand new. Meaning, aside from being tested to insure proper operation and break-in before final biasing, they have never been played on stage or owned by anyone until sold. Amp is overpacked in a large 40” x 20” x 20” box with bubble wrap and some foam. The power tubes are removed, wrapped in bubble wrap with labels indicating their position and placed inside the amp (V4 being closets to the 3rd 12AX7 phase-inverter. When amp is received, removed the back panel, install the power tubes, place panel back and fasted with screws provided).
