RUNT GUITARS Homemade Instruments, a brand by Masahiro Goto, an up-and-coming Luthier with a unique background living in Hokkaido, is proud to present a super-practical Guitar from RUNT GUITARS Homemade Instruments.
RUNT GUITARS officially started its activities in 2016.
Mr. Goto has a unique background, originally working as a studio manager at a studio in Tokyo, rather than as a repairman who became independent and became a craftsman, which is often seen in private studios.
As a player himself, he has seen the problems and areas for improvement that are evident in many players' demonstrations.
He believes in making instruments based on the clear philosophy that "a good sound comes from the artist's sensibility transmitted through the fingertips, and for this to happen, there must be no stress in the playing to the utmost limit.
Some of the best overseas luthiers have gone from being engineers to craftsmen, but Mr. Goto's instruments are, as is often the case, extremely unique and excellent in both playability and design.
The guitar we have just received is one of the SS (Super Sport) series, which is based on a relatively traditional body shape.
While the original design of the guitar is named after a wild animal that lives in Hokkaido, the model is inspired by a motorcycle, just as the F Company used to quote model names and color names from classic cars.
The contours of the lower part of the body, where the arms and body directly contact each other, have a beautiful curve that is not "just cut".
The structure fits to the body as if it were absorbing into the body, minimizing the stress felt while playing.
Among the SS series, the "SPECIAL" line is produced by designing and selecting materials based on free ideas without being bound by predetermined specifications.
The biggest feature of this particular model is the rosewood neck.
The use of hard rosewood for the neck produces a unique midrange that is responsive yet persistent. You can fully enjoy the beautiful high mids that can only be experienced with this spec.
Instead of a 1-piece neck, the fingerboard is covered with rosewood. This makes the overtone structure more complex than that of a 1-piece neck, and gives the sound more depth.
As with all RUNT GUITARS models, Mr. Kubota's design sense shines through.
The body is made of Hokkaido Walnut, which is also used in the "RACER" line. What is surprising is that the body is painted in White Blonde, even though it is made of Walnut, which tends to have a strong color.
Of course, it is not completely painted over, but the grain of the wood can be seen. The painting sense and technique are also top notch.
Poplar burl is embedded along the shape of the pickguard used on the "STANDARD" line, and painted in purple.
The body top has a crisp appearance even without the pickguard. The wood grain can also be tasted.
The pickups are EMG SA set. Low noise like active pickups, and clear, clean and beautiful tone.
RUNT GUITARS often uses EMG pickups, and the sound of EMG pickups clearly shows the precision of its construction and setup.
Because RUNT GUITARS is manufactured with the highest quality technology, it is possible to take full advantage of the EMG sound, and the amount of information in the sound output from the amp is different.
The most noticeable point in the performance is the asymmetrical neck.
The asymmetrical grip is so detailed that you would not notice it if you held the instrument without being informed of its nature.
If you actually open your left hand and place it on the neck, you will notice that the distance from your palm to both ends of the neck is naturally different.
Also, if you look at the line from the thumb to the index finger, which is the point that touches the neck the most, the curve is clearly asymmetrical.
This is the result of our attention to the structure of the human hand and the superb fit we were able to achieve.
The 16" flat fretboard R, together with the high speed playability that lives up to the name of "Motorcycle Supersport," ensures the highest class of playability.
The neck joint is a bolt-on, yet smooth heel-less joint like a through neck or set neck, so you will not feel any stress when pressing the strings on the last fret. (4-point fixation with stainless steel screws & brass washers)
The fingerboard edge is well rounded, and even at low string height on the bridge side, the imo screws do not protrude from the saddle extremely much, ensuring stress-free high playability.
The low fret side has a large radius, which is a great spec from a player's point of view.
The fret edge angle is shallow, which prevents the strings from falling off even with deep vibrato.
Burrs are also unlikely to occur, and the height of all frets has been pushed to the limit to ensure a low action setting from the time of shipment.
No compromises are made when it comes to any of the parts, and the use of high-precision GOTOH pegs and BLACK TUSQ wood for tuning accuracy is a matter of course.
The output jack plate is an original design made of hand-cut aluminum. This is a masterpiece that has been created with a great deal of care and attention to detail!
In the true sense of the word, this is an all-handmade product, full of consideration for the user.
This is a precision-made product that is sure to make its way into the mainstream.
