I commissioned this guitar from Paul and Megan last year. It was inspired by a specific Gretsch Duo Jet that I owned, which featured a silver burst sparkle finish and Dynasonic pickups. Paul's Oceana took the best parts of my former Gretsch to a whole other level in tone and playability. You can see this one on Paul's website. It looks even better in person, if you can believe it.

The guitar pictured features a Spanish Cedar body and neck. For those unfamiliar, many luthiers consider Spanish Cedar to possess the best tonal qualities of old-growth mahogany. The fretboard is ebony with Gretsch-style "hump block" inlays. The pickups are TV-Jones T'Armond's, and they sound incredible in this guitar. The bridge is a Compton, which should be familiar to a lot of Gretsch folks. Combined with the Bigsby B5, it imparts a lot of that Duo Jet character, but the sound is more refined. A summary of specs are as follows:

  • Set-in Spanish Cedar neck
  • "59" carve (.85 at the first fret to 1.0 at the 12th, mild V)
  • Ebony fretboard
  • Custom Silver Sparkleburst finish - the best sparkle paint job I've ever seen!
  • 24.625" scale length
  • 22 Jescar FW47095 frets
  • 12" fretboard radius
  • 1-11/16" nut width
  • Gotoh vintage-style tuners
  • TV Jones T'Armond pickups
  • Compton floating bridge with Bigsby B5
  • CTS volume/tone controls, Switchcraft pickup selector
This guitar would cost $3850 today as featured. I'm offering mine for $2050. That's 47% off over new, for what is essentially a new guitar. Buyer pays actual shipping / insurance at this price.

The only reason I'm selling is to finance another Rhoney build (an Oceana Marquis))
