Regal Le Domino from Beare & Son 1930's Vintage Acoustic Parlour Guitar like Elliott Smith's *RARE*
To paraphrase: The Le Domino family of instruments were built through the late 1920's and 1930's. Originally produced by J.R. Stewart in Chicago, the Le Domino models, along with all of Stewart's other production, were built by Regal in the early 1930's. Most haven't survived the years well, and this guitar's exceptional condition is somewhat of a miracle.

The Regal Le Dominos distributed by Beare & Son are among the most appealing depression-era decorated guitars. The black finish and domino decals are tastefully stylish, and the guitar's light build and ladder-bracing offer a particularly warm and focused tone.

This instrument probably shouldn't exist corporeally, but here it is. This example has been beautifully preserved and has survived the years without cracks, damage, or finish wear.

Black finished birch body with ladder bracing. Black-painted maple fingerboard and bridge, Domino decal fingerboard markers and top decals. Short 24.5” scale neck, 1-7/8” width at the nut, and a softened V neck carve. Completely original, from tuners to endpin.

More background paraphrases: John Beare (1847-1928) founded his shop in 1865. According to an 1898 book, he had soon gained "practically a monopoly of the old violin business in the provinces", being both knowledgeable and a skilled performer. In 1892, he divided his business in two, forming Beare & Son (run by John's son Walter) and Beare, Goodwin & Co (taking on Edward Goodwin as a partner).

The Beare & Son division is now based in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, having been trading in one form or another for over 150 years. Throughout this time they have primarily been wholesalers of an extensive range of items for the violin trade, which includes instrument makers and repairers and high street music shops. They have also distributed guitars, their pre-war catalogs (Beare & Sons, London and Toronto) displays various acoustic guitars from Gibson and there were also own brand Beare & Son stringed instruments including guitars, mandolins and ukuleles.
