2014 Ryan Thorell SJ Flattop Bearclaw Spruce Flamed Walnut

Offered for sale is a showpiece 16” flattop from the workshop of Ryan Thorell. Players like Frank Vignola, Tommy Emanuel, Adam Miller, and George Cole play Thorell guitars for good reason, evident in the playability and tone displayed by this particular instrument.

Overall the guitar is in very good condition, although there are lacquer checks / sinking visible through out. I have photographed some of the most prominent areas. There are also a few dings on the top highlighted. A slight spot in the neck where the finish dulled is also pictured.

The guitar is currently set up at a comfortable 5/64” to 4/64” from bass to treble. The neck has a gentle C profile and also to me has a thin feel, which I like. Aside from its beautiful voice and easy playability, the tonewoods are of note. The bearclaw figuring in the top is exquisite, as is the walnut back and sides. What’s more, the same highly figured walnut is also used for the neck. The striping in the fingerboard rounds out the whole package.

Current base price for a flattop near this size (15 5/8”) is $9800, without considering the show quality woods and appointments, or wait time, making this a guitar to consider.
