Up for sale, a 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Featuring a custom color Azureglo gloss finish and neck through body construction, this Rickenbacker thumps and growls in equal measure, and the sustain is near endless. Strung with roundwound 45-105 strings that accentuate the grind and top end articulation of the instrument, there's equal parts midrange power and fundamental warmth available via the original Hi-Gain pickups. The bass is well-balanced and very resonant at 8lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and spot-on intonation.

The neck has a full C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder, measuring .900" deep at the 1st fret and .930" at the 12th. The 33 1/4" scale is Rickenbacker's traditional long scale, and the gloss-finished slab rosewood fretboard features original frets and pearl triangle inlay. The slender frets show only light wear on the crowns of frets 1-5, playing well in every register with a straight neck and pair of responsive, optimally adjusted truss rods. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock features the original lucite Rickenbacker logo/truss rod cover and a set of Grover tuning machines with distinctive wavy clover buttons. The tuners have clean chrome plating, turning smoothly and holding pitch well.

All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints on the stock harness and CTS pots that date to the 47th week of '73. The Rick-o-Sound stereo jackplate has a stamped serial number with an "ML" prefix that dates to December of 1973. All of the original hardware is intact with clean chrome plating, and the adjustable mute still retains its stock (albeit hardened) foam. All original plastics are intact and in great shape too including the single-ply pickguard and quartet of knobs.

The gloss Azureglo finish is 100% original and an uncommon custom color, showing some small finish chips on the top headstock edge, light buckle rash on the upper bout on the back, and various small nicks and finish scratches on the body as a whole consistent with careful, honest use. The neck profile also retains its smooth, clean Azureglo gloss.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included with a trio of original functional latches, the stock handle, and clean black leather ends.
