EXTREMELY rare Proulx OMD.
Mario Proulx is a Luthier from Canada and his guitars are renown for their excellence. There were only a few of these OMD's made and this is one of them.
From Mario himself:
"A true "banjo killer" if there ever was one! And of course, all the comfort of an OM! We didn't add depth to the sides, which would make the guitar feel like a larger bodied guitar; the softened waist and upper bout area does add some internal volume, but this guitar's voice comes mainly from its carbon fiber and spruce laminated bracing, the shape and pattern of which has been arrived at by careful engineering and much R&D work by Bryan Kimsey and myself."
This OMD is cross between an OM and a dreadnaught guitar in size. Very clean with a little bit of finish chipping along the fretboard along the 5th fret. EVO frets were put on it some time in the past as I don't think those were available in 2006. It has a K&K Trinity pickup and an external preamp. I was told it works great but I haven't tried it myself.
The top is Engelmann and back and sides are beautiful Cocobolo. Many compare this wood tone to Brazilian rosewood. This guitar has a HUGE sound for a smaller body guitar. All OMD's have large sound holes. Everyone who plays it is amazed at the depth of tone and volume on this one of a kind guitar.
Bryan Kimsey is one of the designers of this guitar and owns two himself. Check out the video below. If you are tired of reaching around a full size dread then this guitar is for you.
