Super Faded Aged Shell Pink '59 Strat Relic Ever since the Stratocaster debuted in 1954, it has evolved, even in the earliest days.  1959 saw some important changes to the Stratocaster, mainly in the addition of a rosewood fretboard.  It also brought a new neck shape, differently voiced pickups, and new color options.  As music progressed during this era, so did Leo Fender's finest creation.  The Strat has continued to change over the years, but for many, stepping back to how it was done in the last year of the 50's is the way to go.

The Custom Shop 1959 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic is a fine testament to these innovations, featuring a two-piece select alder body that has been hand-selected to be lightweight, a rift-sawn maple neck with a 60's style Oval "C" neck shape, and all of the correct vintage hardware.  The neck is topped with a AAA Rosewood (flat lam) fretboard.  We went with a 9.5" radius and Jumbo (6100) frets for easy playing and bending - this is one of the most common and popular modifications to vintage-styled guitars out of the Custom Shop.  While the guitar is a Journeyman Relic, we had the neck given a Heavy Relic treatment, to maximize the "broken in" feel that players love.    As for the color, this isn't just Shell Pink - it's Super Faded Aged Shell Pink.  As the title suggests, the result is a "muted" and faded look that gives the appearance of a guitar that has been aging gracefully for the last 60 years, morphing into an entirely different color of its own.

We didn't want to keep this one too traditional, so we went with a different set of pickups - the handwound Custom Texas Specials.  Nothing beats these for searing single-coil tone.  These pickups are over-wound for increased output, with great midrange bite with crystalline highs and tight bass.  It's all about how they are made in the Custom Shop:  enamel-coated magnet wire for warm vintage tone, staggered pole pieces for balanced output, Alnico 5 magnets for more focus and enhanced dynamics, cloth wire and fiber bobbin and a reverse-wound middle pickup to eliminate hum.  We also chose the Vintage Modified # 2 wiring setup.  This features a master volume, tone # 1 (neck & middle pickups), and tone # 2 (bridge) with treble bleed (for keeping mids and rolling off highs without adding bass).  This guitar sounds downright amazing.
Other features include an American Vintage synchronized tremolo, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and a single-ply parchment pickguard. Also includes a period correct Custom Shop tweed hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.
