Up for sale, a 2000's Mosrite Super Custom 65 vintage reissue electric guitar in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Crafted at the KuroKumo factory in Japan, just down the road from the famed FujiGen factory, this rare reissue model was made for a limited period, with the majority of examples only available to the domestic Japanese market. KuroKumo-made Mosrites are sought after for their masterful build quality and attention to detail, and this Super Custom 65 replicates all the essential features of the early Ventures Model instruments, with smooth knobs, milled switch tip, sandcast Vibramute tailpiece, and first generation German Carve on the basswood body. The stock pair of stock single coil pickups are rich and sparkly, not as overwound as some, yet still providing lots of muscle and a bold, distinct sound in every pick up position. Chewy and snappy at the bridge and very big and broad at the neck, these pickups offer an authoritative treble zing that's quintessential Mosrite. Weighing 9lbs 5oz.
The maple neck has Mosrite's signature slender C shaped profile, and this one's even more slim and fast-feeling than most, with a smooth gloss finish and a bound rosewood fretboard. The profile measures .765” deep at the 1st fret and .840” at the 12th. The rosewood board is an extremely dark cut, retaining the original slender vintage-style frets which have their full factory height with just a hair more crown than vintage Mosrite fretwire. The frets show light wear on the crowns beneath the plain strings on frets 1-9 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard, playing cleanly in every register. A faithful reissue in every respect, this Mosrite boasts a 24 3/4" scale and a 1 9/16" wide aluminum nut accompanied by a zero fret. The headstock features Kluson-style tuners that have the classic '60s look and hold pitch well with liberal vibrato use.
The body features original single coil pickups that both read 7.6k ohms, and while these pickups are less aggressive in terms of output than vintage Mosrite pickups, they're wound fairly hot for a single coil, balancing traditional chime and more meaty Mosrite tones. The '65 look is rounded out with a three-ply tortoise pickguard, milled switch tip, and chrome-plated metal Mosrite knobs machined with smooth tops (the design that predated the more common "M" knobs). The “Vibramute” vibrato is extremely smooth and elegant, touch-sensitive in its responsiveness and made to exacting vintage spec with a sandcast base and chrome plated string anchor and arm.
The Pearl White finish is one of the rarer options offered on Kurokumo's Mosrites, with cosmetic wear limited to a few isolated tiny nicks on the body as a whole, one small spot of very light targeted buckle rash on the back just south of the neck plate, and very faint yellowing of the clear coat of the gloss. The neck profile is flawless.
The original Mosrite-branded black tolex hardshell case is included.
