The Roland ‘SYSTEM-1m’ is a semi-modular synth with PLUG-OUT features and a unique design that can be used as a Eurorack module, a tabletop standalone synth, or a 19” rack mount unit. In addition to being a impressive and capable standalone instrument, the SYSTEM-1m boasts external inputs and an array of CV/Gate connections that enable it to be re-patched and to interact with other modular synthesizer rigs. The SYSTEM-1m’s CV/Gate connections in combination with its capability to load classic Roland PLUG-OUT synth models like the PROMARS and SH-101 give it tremendous power and flexibility that is simply unheard of.

Modular synthesizers are highly prized by musicians and sound designers for their ability to make totally unique and engaging sounds. But the world of modular can be very demanding of both time and money to create a fully functional system. The SYSTEM-1m takes the guesswork out of dipping into the realm of modular with great sounds and huge freedom to experiment right out of the box. The fully self-contained module can fit in a rack or on by itself on a table and can be powered via a standard AC adaptor. And it can be triggered from any standard MIDI keyboard or receive MIDI messages from a DAW - just as one would expect.

However, the SYSTEM-1m goes far beyond standard synthesizer modules. Featuring fully-lit, color coded patch points, users can play with re configuration of its architecture and easily interface with a wide world of available synthesizer modules. In addition to performing as a rack mounted or tabletop synth, the SYSTEM-1m can also be mounted in any standard Eurorack enclosure and can be powered by integrated Euro case power with the included adapter cable. Its robust synth architecture integrates perfectly with existing modular setups - or it can be the heart of a growing modular synthesizer rig.
A Collection of Classics

The SYSTEM-1m is an extremely powerful instrument based on Rolands more than 40 years of experience in designing all types of synthesizers. It’s capable of an astonishing range of tones, from glistening arps to huge booming basses. But Roland is also known for its history of legendary vintage instruments, sought after by musicians all over the world. These include a laundry list of classic synthesizers renowned for their unique character and genre-defining tones. And this is why PLUG-OUT technology was developed.

PLUG-OUT synthesizers utilize the Analog Circuit Behavior technology to precisely replicate some of the most revered classic synths. They work the same as regular VST or AU plugins in any DAW, with the SYSTEM-1m’s lineup of high-resolution controls, creating an efficient, one-to-one control surface that performs seamlessly. But users can also load PLUG-OUT synths directly into the SYSTEM-1m and switch between the internal synthesizer architecture and any of a growing roster of PLUG-OUT Roland classics, such as the SH-101, SH-2 and PROMARS - without requiring a computer.

While it provides a stunning amount of synthesis power on its own, interconnecting the SYSTEM-1m with other modular gear can create a massive range of sonic possibilities. The impressive oscillator section, sweet resonant filters and snappy envelopes are certain to be welcome in any modular setup, whether it's extensively built or just starting up. But it’s the SYSTEM-1m’s blending of CV/Gate modulation abilities, PLUG-OUT, and DAW integration that puts it into completely uncharted territory.

For example, users can load the SH-101 PLUG-OUT into the SYSTEM-1m and they essentially have a hardware SH-101 with modular features - something that has never before existed. Users can process external audio sources through the SH-101’s renowned filters, or load the SH-2 PLUG-OUT and use its powerful oscillator section to drive any number of Eurorack filters and envelopes. The potential is astounding.
