About This Listing
10-2013
1979 Gibson V2 is one of 157 built in the first year of
production. This example is a one family guitar, and is in very good all
original condition. The V2 was one of the first projects taken on by Tim Shaw
when he started work at Gibson. The "boomerang" humbucking pickups
and the sculpted body are very unique features to the model. Gold hardware
with black plastics makes for a lovely aesthetic. 7lbs 11oz
Condition wise this guitar is considered "very good". There's a
handful of nicks & dings, as well as some buckle rash on the back of the
guitar that has been professionally repaired. The repaired area is a bit
darker then the rest of the finish. See photos. Guitar is 100% original and
is perfectly functioning with no cracks, breaks or other repairs.
Included in the sale is the original Gibson hardshell case.
The V2 was the first major redesign of the Flying V since 1966. The body shifted from mahogany to a five-piece body and neck made of maple and walnut. This guitar featured sculpted edges on the body and a pair of "boomerang" style pickups, though later the guitar would be available with standard humbuckers as well. The Flying V was updated again to a simpler design in 1981 with the Flying V I, and the Flying V2 would be discontinued not long afterwards.
