Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a very unique and rarer 1960's era Japanese microphone with a style all it's own but somewhat similar to the older microphones being sold in the 1930's. This mic has an ultra modern contemporary vibe that is going to draw attention anywhere it's displayed. This would make an exceptional desk lamp as well.
This Rheem D-182 model was a higher end design offered only by Rheem and no other Japanese mic company. It's a larger mic with stunning looks and has a dynamic cardioid element with a on / off switch, dual Z switch, bass roll off knob and lower yoke giving the user quite a few options to work with. That being said the D-182 mic has been tested and the element no longer works. This should be used only for display, repair or prop purposes only. It does come with the cast iron stand in which to display.
This mic is 100% complete so a new element would set this mic straight again. This was an expensive mic for it's time and I would go so far as to say it was a studio quality mic. It would have been ideal for singing or broadcasting.
As you can see in the detailed pics provided that this mic is exceptionally clean. The satin chrome finish glows and is free of any wear. The black painted sections are free of any wear as well. Just a real gem of a mic. The front screen is free of dents, tarnish or odors. The lower yolk works perfectly. The thumb screws on the side of the mic tighten accordingly and look great. the lower pistol grip is just as nice and will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have though one is already provided. I'd rate the cosmetic condition of this mic a true 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10.
The stand is a newer 1980's or 90's Chinese model that is basically an exact replica of The Atlas DS-5 model. It compliments the mic nicely. The stand has almost zero physical wear and makes an excellent platform due to it's weight and width. The painted base is original and the polished chrome riser is very nice. The stand itself is appx 6 1/2 inches tall X 6 inches wide. The mic on top of the stand is appx 13 inches tall.
There is no cable provided so you'll have to locate one if you ever intend on getting this mic working again.
As with all my vintage microphones...
