About This Listing

For your consideration is a 70's era Dorado Deluxe 5-string banjo with the original hard shell case. This banjo was produced as part of the Kasuga instrument company based out of Japan in the early to mid 1970's. Based on some paperwork found in the case, this instrument was serviced out of a repair shop in Spencer, IA on 5-10-1974 so we presume the instrument was produced in the early 1970's. This paperwork receipt can be photographed and sent by request. In this time, they produced banjo's under several names including Dorado, Alvarez, Aria, Ventura, Morris, and Kasuga as well as others. Models shared similarities regardless of headstock branding.

Banjo is a "deluxe" which features a resonator with intricate inlays and a special inlay on the headstock and truss rod cover plate. The "bowtie" design is also consistent with models from this time.

Banjos like these were made in an effort to capitalize on the popularity of the USA designs made by companies such as Gibson. This model however isn't a direct copy, but more of an influenced model. The headstock has its own unique design and it plays awesome! This banjo was recently restrung with new D'Addario J60 light strings and had a Remo 11" medium collar banjo head installed and a setup done. Case is in fair condition but does have binding separating from the edge (see photo) and latches are worn. Still protects the instrument and has a nice neck pocket available. Would make a nice banjo for prospective buyer!
