1965 Ludwig Super
Classic Drum Kit
White Pearl
All Original
Purchased from daughter of original owner in 2003. (Estimated
date of original purchase 1965/66.) Rarely played for the last 30 years. This is a complete with hardware and cymbals vintage
kit with that wonderful, full Ludwig sound.
Kit includes:
1-
Supra-Phonic 400 Snare: 5”x14”, chrome with
damper, excellent condition; no pitting or obvious scratches. Remo Weather King
batter and Ludwig Weather Master clear under head with one small hole. Keystone
badge number 95575 indicates manufacture in 1964.
2-
Bass drum: 14”x22”, white marine pearl with
single tom mounting rail and bracket and “L” arm cymbal arm mount. No pitting
on metal parts but very slight rust spot on one part of the Tom-Tom mount. No
damper but the old towel strip and pillow system. Both original “legs.”
Original hoops need touch-up paint and pearl inlays are intact (factory
installed with staples connecting the ends, see pix.) Heads are okay; the
batter has a small tear and the metal rim captured by the hoop has several
gouges. These defects have no effect on
the drum’s sound nor the heads functionality. The heads are Ludwig Weather
Master front and back. The pearl is
slightly faded (all the drums’ pearl matches) and the seams are tight. Keystone
badge number 76784 indicates manufacture in 1964. (No interior date stamp.)
3-
Mounted Tom: 9”x13”, white marine pearl with
damper. No pitting on metal parts, pearl has slight fading, seams tight, two
newer Remo Weather King Batters on top and bottom. Drum is complete as
original. Keystone badge number 191530
indicates manufacture date in 1965, confirmed by date stamp on inside of shell:
month indistinguishable, day 16th, year 1965.
4-
Floor Tom: 16’x16’, white marine pearl with
damper and added towel strip on bottom head. All original with legs and rubber
feet. No pitting on metal parts, pearl has slight fading, seam has very slight
separation for about 1.5”at the bottom rim, Ludwig Weather Masters on top and bottom. Slight
imperfection at the seam in the wood shell internally. This appears to be a manufacturing defect as
it appears to be original to the drum and not the result of some later
damage. Drum is complete as
original. Keystone badge number 150447
indicates manufacture date in 1965, confirmed by date stamp on inside of shell:
month July, day 20th, year 1965.
5-
The kit includes all original Avedis Zildjian
cymbals: 14” hi hat, 17” medium ride, 20” medium ride. No keyholing on
any cymbals.
6-
Hardware: old snare hard case, WFL snare stand
(flat leg), unbranded snare stand (flat leg,) unbranded WFL cymbal floor stand
(flat leg,) WFL speed king hi-hat stand, WFL speed king base pedal. All in good, workable condition. Ancient drum
throne in poor condition (but it works!)
