Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic Electro Voice model 920 "Spherex" microphone. This simple, elegant and timeless design came right from Buchanan, Michigan during the 1950's. This smaller mic comes with a period Atlas DS-5 model desk stand shown in which to display.

Picture # 2 is from a 1950's catalog showing basic specs on this mic.

This 920 utilized a crystal element which has been tested but as normal...no longer works. The original crystal element is still inside it's just that these 920 crystal elements wear out with age and almost never work at this point in time. The small size of this mic will make it easy for the user to cup the piece and use while performing live if one chooses to replace the crystal element with something that actually works. A Shure controlled magnetic element would do this mic justice.  When it's cupped in the hand the signal strength really explodes with a working element.

This 920 has a polished chrome body that shows very lite wear. No dents or engravings but there are just the tiniest of scratches. The front screen has just lite no tarnish, odors or dents. Overall a very nice looking 920.

 I'd rate this a true 8 on a scale of 1 - 10.

The original cloth cable has a short length to it being just 14 inches long with an older female Cannon XLR end connector that is properly wired. The cable itself is free of damage and allows for a wide range of movement if needed. The mic thread on the mic is perfect as well with zero signs of use and will screw onto any American mic stand.

I have also been told that these make excellent gear shift knobs for older classic American cars and have sold a couple for such use but I would recommend actually using this as it was originally intended. If you have any further questions about the set up of this microphone please feel free to ask.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF SALE...

The stand is a period Atlas DS-5 model that compliments the mic nicely and makes for a very stable platform with it's wide, heavy cast iron base. It's comes with an original black paint scheme which shows no discoloration, scratches, chips or scuff marks. The 6 inch chrome riser no wear but there is a small hole in it for the cable to enter sliding down into the base and the cable exits out the side for a stealthier appearance. The stand has 3 original cork pads that are in excellent shape and there is no rust on the bottom of the base. Just some resin residue. The mic with the stand it's appx 9 1/2 inches tall X 6 inches wide and weighs just over 3 pounds.

A fun piece in which to display anywhere in the home, studio or man cave.

  As always...
