This posting is for a classic AKAI 1710W open reel tape deck from the late 1960s.

It's in very good working condition; tape path has been cleaned and moving components lubricated. The case shows some wear, and there's some minor marks and "patina" from age.  It records and plays back well; you can hear it playing back some audio that I recorded on it from a digital source in the attached video. All functions are tested and appear to be working well. VU meters work great for showing record levels.

This unit has a built-in stereo tube amp and speakers, which sound great. As I understand, it was among the last of the classic vacuum tube Akai/Roberts recorders. It also has phono inputs and external speaker outputs to use the amplifier for other purposes. I'm sure it'd sound even better with some larger efficient speakers. It's a 4-track, 2-channel, stereo/monaural unit. Motor is two-speed switchable (up to 7.5ips I believe).  It includes the original wooden front cover that latches on, and I'm also including three lightly-used Scotch tape reels and one extra takeup reel.

As this is definitely a vintage unit with applicable quirks,  there's no warranty other than it will be as described upon arrival.
