1984 Yamaha Lord Player LP-500 w/HSC - Lawsuit Les Paul Killer – w/mods

This is a magnificent example of a Yamaha Lord Player from the lawsuit era with Gibson type "open book" headstock. From all accounts these are not only identical in looks but superior in craftsmanship to their Gibson counterparts, causing the stir that led to the lawsuits. Outstanding tone and easy, smooth player with low action.

The tone woods on this guitar are Mahogany set-neck and body. Model numbers under LP-500 use Agathis for the body and Mahogany for the neck, there is a difference on tone. Comparable Gibsons are Mahogany neck and body.

·   Vitamin Q PIO capacitors; .015uf for the neck, .022uf for the bridge.

·   Switchcraft replacements used for toggle switch and output jack.

·   All wiring replaced and done in the 50’s Les Paul wiring configuration.

·   For more info on parts see the following link; its where I purchased them -

Also included, is a TKL hard case in excellent condition (see pictures 1 and 10).

You are bidding on a 32 year old guitar, so there are some swirls and light scratches on the finish; typical for a guitar of this age. Needless to say, I am not the original owner and there are a few details I would like to share with you for the sake of full disclosure:

1.    The top left edge of the headstock, when facing, at some time in the past has had a light finish repair (see picture #2). It is very hard to picture and something that someone would only see at close inspection.

2.    A piece of the nut, on the bass side, has chipped off. It was like this when I received the guitar from Japan and has never been an issue for playability (see pictures 2, 3 and 4).

3.    There is a very small chip in the finish under the pick guard; directly under the screw that holds the pickguard to the bracket. My guess is someone in the past smacked the pickguard pretty hard and drove the screw into the finish (see picture #9).
