Up for sale is a very interesting and incredibly cool vintage guitar. The fact that its close to 200 years old and still relatively unscathed is no small feat; it’s amazing to think that this guitar was around when Lincoln was in office. This instrument is a talisman to another time, a treasured time capsule that has witnessed so much in its lifetime. Imagine the memories and songs imprinted on this instrument, as the old saying goes, if only they could talk.
As is known with guitars like this, its tough to trace a distinct lineage and brand however this guitar appears similar to ones manufactured in Saxony in that era, it also bears some similarities to a CC Keene guitar as well. I’m not an expert in this field so I can’t say for sure what exactly it is. There is some writing on the inside that may help identify it as well. The “ice cream cone” style neck joint dates it to around 1860.
The instrument comes included with its original ivory-button tuners (which are still in perfect working order), and some really nice old bone bridge pins, also has some gut strings on it now from god knows how long ago.
This guitar will definitely need some work and TLC to bring it back to playing condition, it appears to have been fixed and repaired many times throughout its life, but after giving this a full restoration it’ll certainly be good for another 160 years and it will be so fulfilling to make music on an instrument with such rich heritage.
The pictures demonstrate the guitars condition accurately, the two photos of the inside of the guitar are ones I found from a previous owner before they reassembled it.
If you have any questions let me know and feel free to make an offer; thanks!
