The banjo is the manifestation of happy/sad. It can deliver sad news in a way that seems to cushion the blow. It’s both too real and a method of escapism at the same time. A sad song on the banjo still has a tinge of hopefulness that seems to encourage that all is not lost.

Overall, this old Kay is looking and sounding pretty sharp. The headstock logo is beautiful, kind of has some old Model T Ford vibes going on up there. It’s really clean for the age. It sounds fantastic in the lower positions beneath the 9th fret, and beyond that it has some trouble with fretting out. It’s super playable and enjoyable beneath the 9th fret, everything’s in tune and old timey sounding, it’s straight out of O Brother Where art Thou. It’s a lot more of a songwriter and a strummer than it is a shredder for that reason, but there’s still a ton of music to be made on it just the way it is. To make it be 100% it would need some new frets and then it would rip as well as any banjo out there and it’s a great candidate to go down that road with, but there’s a lot to love about this one exactly the way it is right now. It has a beautiful Gillian Welch old timey tone down in the lower register, it seriously sounds fantastic, message me for a video. The cowboy chords are where it’s at for this one, killer strummer!
