King 2B Trombone "Fixer Upper"
Liberty Bell, Yellow Brass
Silver Plated Slide
Serial: 3069xx
Condition: Fair
This listing is for a King 2B Trombone, Liberty Bell edition. This is an old horn from the mid 1950's, so about 75 years old! The horn is free-blowing, lightweight and a joy to play. However, because of the slide this horn is more of a "fixer-upper" with a lot of upside, as detailed below.
Bell is in great overall condition for a 75 year old horn. No major dings or dents on the bell. Could use a buffing and repolish, and the lacquer is gone. But it plays as well as it did many years ago. Yellow Brass, 7.5 inch.
The slide, which is an old-school Silversonic slide, is in poor shape and likely needs to be re-plated and/or rebuilt. It has received a lot of wear and tear. There are corrosion and soldering scars on the slide stockings, and the slide makes a slight grinding sound when moving. I paid for a full service at the local repair shop which improved it but didn't solve all the problems, since it's an older horn. Using Trombotine and keeping it fairly heavily greased makes it playable and it plays just as a 2B should, but the slide is a distraction.
This is a good horn for someone who really wants a King 2B on a budget, and is willing to put some time, effort and money into it to get it back into primo shape. As-is it is totally playable, but think of it as a "pet project" or a "fixer-upper".
At some point it was used in a local school district, so it has "SLUSD 1764 " lightly etched into the bell and slide and it can't be removed. It's not very noticeable since it's on the silver parts.
Comes with a beautiful old-school alligator skin case with red-cloth interior. The case alone is probably worth $200+.
Selling as-is with no returns. I've lowered the price to $650 and will accept offers.
