Paul Berger was a Martin employee for years and did hundreds of repairs for them ...in the PA factory ...we have recently been asked to sell a couple of guitars that he made. He had Martin's blessing to make replicas or his versions of D 18's, D 28's and D 35's...according to Wikipedia he made around 210 guitars under his own name. This is a D35 inspired guitar with a 3 piece back ..indian rosewood as..it is very light in color ....this guitar had about an almost 2 inch piece of binding missing from the bottom of the guitar, but has been repaired by a true master luthier and is hardly noticeable any more! This guitar sounds and plays great very punchy for flatpick and nice and even when strummed ! Comes with a nice hardshell case !

1960-1972 – Worked for .

1972 to 2015 – made 210 instruments under his own name.

Originally made in S Green Street, Nazareth, Pennsylvania.

Later instruments were made in Berger’s Guitar Repair Shop W. Fourth St Apopka, Florida.

Paul “is considered one of Martin Guitars best luthiers during his time there from 1960 to 1972. He ran the Martin repair shop and restored most of the pre-war collection in Martin’s museum. When he left Martin in 1972 for health reasons he purchased a significant supply of old growth Brazilian Rosewood (supposedly milled at Martin in the late 40s) and Adirondack spruce.

Martin reportedly gave Paul his blessing to build his own custom dreads to Martin specs, especially pre-war era style) as long as he didn’t use the Martin logo. He built 210 guitars since leaving Martin. [Source: reverb.com]
