This 90s Fender Stratocaster body survived a fire along with the Tremolo bridge/block/saddles and claw. All other parts including the neck were a loss. The fire revealed an incredible Black over Burgundy Mist finish while nicely toasting the wood underneath. This strat weighs a decent 8lbs 1z and plays fast with low action, has incredible sustain and a vintage woody tone.
When I rescued this guitar it was full of ash and soot which I then removed and found the really cool finish underneath. All chipped edges have been smoothed out and stabilized. The neck is a direct replacement and has a nice medium "C" shape. I sanded the heel down for best wood to wood contact. The pocket is such a good fit that you could almost tune this without the bolts in. All wiring has been replaced with Vintage Spec Cloth Wire, Full Sized Potentiometers and Orange Drop Capacitor.
Handwound Stratohawk Guitar Works 6469 Strat style pickups are built by Chris Cook of Iowa to late 60s specs using high quality vulcanized fiber bobbin flatwork, black for the top and gray for the bottom, Alnico 5 magnets and 42 AWG Plain Enamel magnet wire. The bobbins are lacquer dipped before being handwound, (aka scatter wound). The Alnico 5 magnets are hand charged by Chris with the polarity all South. Sound attached and starts and the bridge pickup and ends with the neck pickup. I have owned some amazing pickups, Rocketfire, Ron Ellis, David Allens and more. These are as clear as any Total 60's I have played and those have always been my favorites until now. Chris is already an elite winder and is going to be sought after very soon.
Guitar ships Fedex with Gig Bag.
SGW Pickups are used in all of our creations. I met Chris Cook through Reverb.com and we are currently collaborating on some amazing new guitars including our very own model is coming soon.
