Up for sale, a 1966 National Westwood 75 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. One of the famed "Map" guitars (for its artistic interpretation of the shape of the USA), this National was produced in Chicago by parent company Valco, who also manufactured guitars branded Supro and Airline among others. National, however, was Valco's top of the line guitar brand, and this Westwood 75 plays very well with a neck position oversized single coil pickup and additional Val-Trol pickup located *inside* the floating bridge.

Unlike the National Res-o-Glass (fiberglass) guitars, the solid wood body of the Westwood 75, chambered from the back, has a more traditional and smooth acoustic resonance. The tonal range is truly vast, from the acoustic-like spank and percussive cut of the Val-Trol pickup inside the bridge to a thick, meaty roar from the oversized neck position ceramic magnet single coil. Combining the two pickups in position 2 on the “Tone” switch is a best-of-both-worlds setting, offering both heft and spank. The guitar weighs a modest 8lbs 1oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and dialed in for optimal action and intonation with fresh 10-46 strings.

The maple neck has a round medium C-shaped profile carve at the nut with more roundness and overall meat as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid block inlay and original slender frets which play cleanly in every register. The scale length measures 24 1/2" when accounting for the zero fret, and the original nylon nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The "gumby" headstock sports the original double line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines with the distinctive oversized tulip buttons only seen on National instruments. The original stickered serial number is clean and present as well, along with the original chrome, raised "National" logo. The foil stickered serial number is also intact.

All of the electronics work as they should and the solder joints are untouched. The original CTS pots have visible date codes from 1966. The three upper knobs offer Volume knobs for positions 1 and 2 on the Tone switch (Val-Trol pickup, and both pickups paired) while the forward knob is a Tone control for the neck pickup. A larger Master Volume knob is located just behind the three-way pickup selector. The carved and compensated rosewood saddle sits on a transparent lucite base, and the bridge pickup is embedded in this piece of hardware. The vibrato unit base is complete as well, with clean chrome plating, but an arm is not included. The original transparent lucite pickguard is intact, with ample pinstriping and the National shield logo central to the guard. There is wear through the chrome plating on the bass-side edge of the pickup cover and through much of the silkscreening as well on the top of the cover. All original cream knobs are intact, along with the long baton switch tip.

The vibrant Vibrant Red Sunburst gloss finish is well-kept, exhibiting some minor finish chips along the lower bout body edge, some scuffing on the black plastic back, and a spot of strap wear through the finish on the bass-side body horn (right around Maine on a USA map). There is notable checking and aging of the neck binding, yet no separation or chipping.

A black tolex hardshell case is included.
