The idea behind the Sunrise Overdrive is to recreate the desirable dynamic qualities of a Model 1961/1962 Marshall “Bluesbreaker” amplifier turned up right to the edge of breakup. When played softly, the guitar remains warm and clean. When you dig in with your picking dynamics, the overdrive really begins to bark and gives that unmistakable feel and breakup sound.
The Sunrise starts with the classic "Black BB Box" and adds the functionality you need. It's a great alternative for guitarists who do not need the mid boost of a Tubescreamer, but want a more neutral pedal. Many people love the Bluesbreaker sound, but have a hard time dialing in the high end to match the rest of their rig. This is why I have included a presence control, not tucked away inside the pedal, but on the face of the pedal. This lets you dial in the sound with the tone control and then add the right amount of high end sparkle with the presence control. These controls work interactively, so it makes sense to have both available at all times. The bass and lower mids have been ever so slightly bumped up to let the pedal work well with both single coils and humbuckers. The op amp is socketed in case you want to easily experiment with some other options. The volume and gain pots have been adjusted to make it easier to find the sweet spot while also offering a wider range of gain options. The Sunrise enhances your playing without overhauling your sound and covering up your technique.
The left footswitch is for the overdrive circuit and the right footswitch is for the JFET boost circuit. The clarity of the boost is adjustable via an internal bias control, so you can set it up to be a completely clean boost or a gritty boost and anywhere in between. This pedal has a completely independent boost section which means that even with the overdrive turned off, the clean boost can be activated and used to boost other pedals or push your amp (with over 20db of boost!). A mini toggle switch allows you to change the order of the overdrive and boost circuits within the signal path.
