Very rare amplifier from what I believe is 1962-63. There's not a lot of info out there on these amps, but Standel was all tube in the 1950's, went all solid state in the mid-60's then went out of business in 1970. This one is a hybrid: SS-preamp and all tube power section. Uses 7591's which are more of a hi-fi tube used in home stereos. JJ Electronics are making them again so they're cheap and easy to find.
This was fully serviced in the fall by Dustin Beasley of Beasley Valve and Sound here in Dallas. He cleaned it up and put in new tubes, caps and resistors. He said it's built like a tank "turret-style" and should last another 50 years.
It's stays nice and clean till about 10 o'clock, but from there it starts to break up nicely and gets heavily saturated when cranked. Nice and crunchy. Sounds great with Celestion Vintage 30's, or other low watt speakers, in my opinion. This isn't like the sterile SS amps of today.
