About This Listing

For sale is a fully restored Fisher SA-16 15WPC stereo power amplifier in fantastic cosmetic condition! This is a classic Fisher design that utilizes four EL84 output tubes to produce a beautiful 15WPC. This model also features two sets of inputs, one is directly coupled to the inputs and the other can be attenuated by the front level controls. We've also added a simple biasing method with some built in self-balancing which is discussed below.

The amazing sonics of this classic amp have been discussed thoroughly online and thus we recommend doing some research there if one hasn't already!

The electronics restoration consisted of first rebuilding the power supply with all brand new high temp, low impedance long life electrolytic capacitors and overrated resistor wattages to minimize heat buildup in this area. A thermistor was also added to slow start the amp and slightly reduce modern wall voltages.

Next the power stage was addressed by replacing all resistors that determine bias stability (G1 and cathode specifically in this design) to be within datasheet specs and have very close matching. The cathodes were originally ran off of the heaters from the preamp but this entire setup is instead replaced with a modified cathode bias setup. Each power tube has a 100 Ohm resistor across it - and then all four meet and feed the second cathode resistor that the bias is actually set against. This combination gives you the inherent self-balancing of separate cathode resistors but also allows the adjustable biasing scheme to still operate properly.

The four output tubes are a vintage quad of British/Mullard EL84 that match beautifully on our tester and in the amp itself. The two rectifiers are a matched pair of RCA-made 6CA4/EZ81 and the phase inverter tubes are a pair of Telefunken tall ribbed plate 12AX7 that test strong and perform flawlessly in this amp!

The amp will be packaged and shipped so it arrives as it left here. Any removed tubes will be labeled so it's clear where they're reinstalled.
