Mathias HEINICKE
Born in 1871 in Budapest, Hungary. Studied in Markneukirchen and Italy, possibly under Eugenio Degani. Active in Budapest and Berlin. Established independently in Wildstein, a town near Eger, in Bohemia (later, Skalná, Czechoslovakia) in 1897. Built fine copies of classical Italian work, each with appropriate shaded varnish. Made great use of timber reclaimed from old buildings. Used spirit and oil varnish of his own recipes. Mathias Heinicke violins have established an extensive sale record at major auctions, including Tarisio and Brompton's (historical prices are readily available at respective websites).
