  • Spectacular example of a 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 bass, with original HSC
...a perfect match for the Geddy Lee fanatic...plays like butter...lots of character...

It is in absolutely dead on, perfect playing condition with no issues of any kind. The neck is smooth and straight, and lightning fast. Action is low, easy and very responsive, and she just feels right. This guitar is 100% solid. No breaks, no cracks, no monkey business. Electronics are excellent, and the pickups sound duh, amazing. This one really gets the bell sound out of the bridge pup, with ample thump from the neck, which appears to be a replacement of the earlier “toaster” variety, discontinued in ‘73. Very much like a piano when picked.

Cosmetically, the bass is in very vintage shape.  You can tell what a player she is by all of that honest wear! The finish and binding have aged to a nice, warm patina, as has the inlays and hardware. Finish is worn all over with moderate play wear throughout. The original case is also in very good vintage condition. I just put on fresh flatwounds, and the action is perfect. This will be a great piece for the professional player studio, or Geddy Lee fanatic for whom the real thing really matters, and nothing less will do. Can't fake the old tone.
