Vintage API 312 Early 1970’s MIC Preamp 8 Channel Rack with All Original In/Out Trafos & 2520 DOAs

This listing is for a custom rack of 8 ORIGINAL API 312 Mic preamps (I’M ALSO INCLUDING AN ACOPIAN PSU AND A FREE MINT CONDITION 8 CHANNEL XLR TO TRS ELITE CORE 8 OUTPUT SNAKE).

These mic pres have all original Input AND Output iron.  They all have their original discrete Farmingdale and Melville Op Amps as well.  This amazing box came about as an idea that I had after stumbling upon some basically untouched early 70s (melville/farmingdale) era 312 preamp cards.  I called Tom Gruning (at Gruning Audioworks...wonderful man btw) and we came up with a plan.  This project was not a light racking project and Tom really knocked it out of the park.  If you don’t know about Tom Gruning, then you need to see his work at his Gruning Audioworks site.  You will see project photos of this exact piece on his site.  It was built as a 10 channel unit, but I’m keeping 2 channels.  The reason we ended up making a custom box is all due to the fact that Tom couldn't stand messing up the original cards (ie. he wanted to make a box that catered to their original pin out...as opposed to mangling up the wiring to make them fit api 15 pin 500 series pin out).  These are the best API pres ever made...from the golden era of API.  Tom was blown away at the headroom these things had.  This box has only been used during bench testing and a brief moment to recheck audio on all channels.  I can’t afford to keep it due to the fact that my workflow doesn’t involve much tracking.  I wired a nice Acopian gold box to power the rack and it works nicely...I’ll leave up to the new owner to add a fuse in the circuit (if you should so choose).  This is a rare chance to own 8 of the best pres ever made.  I promise that you’ll never see anything like this again.  To me, it’s a one off work of audio art (that is ready to take a studio into world class sound).  NOTE: There is also an extra set of outs that you can use to feed a separate summing mixer etc.
