this instrument was made in Miraj, India in 1999-2000 by Altab Husen (AKA Altab Hussain or Altab Mehabub Sitarmaker) under the supervision of Bahauddin Dagar. Delrin bridge (and jawari) by Jeff Lewis; closed, no buzz, no issues, ready to play. a woodworker friend told me the daand (neck) is hardwood called Malaysian Sal. normal signs of 20 years of playing. Comes with fiberglass cases with heavy-duty straps: 2 hat-box shaped ones for the gourds and a (oversized) long box for the daand. sound sample available on Soundcloud under username 'musicslug'. the close-ups show the shims (there are 7 on one side, 8 on the other) I put on to eliminate fret noise, and where I repaired one of posts on the 'peacock' - the bone/antler one broke so I replaced it with a plastic (acetyl) one. this would be a good fit for someone who wants to start playing ASAP, with the idea that they could get a more professional one down the road. to the uninitiated: pretty much all new vinas come with issues having to do with break-in, jawari, and sometimes tweaking; this one would spare you that.
