Selling my Menapia Lily May 5 string bass. This bass is a short scale (30") five string bass, currently tuned E-C and strung with Fodera nickel strings. The pickups are Seymour Duncan NYC pickups wich are rumored to be very closely based on the custom shop pickups Duncan make for Fodera. These are passive, there is no preamp in the bass, although you could easily add one of your choosing if you wished. The pickups are wired for series, parallel, and humbucking operation. They sound great. Controls are Volume, Volume, Tone.
The bass is handbuilt by luthier Martin Murphy, in Wexford Ireland. The body is chambered ash, the top is Spalted Beech, the neck is a very nice maple and walnut construction with an ebony and maple bound ebony fingerboard. The bridge is a hipshot, the tuners are warwick. This is a very well built, handmade instrument with a great voice. I've owned lots of luthier built instruments, and this is right up there with the best of them in quality.
I bought this on Reverb a few months ago. I bought it because the specs were very close to a custom build I was considering. I figured this would be a good way to see if those specs would really work for me before throwing a ton of money into a boutique custom build. Long story short, I decided the specs weren't what I was looking for (I really wanted to try a short scale 5 string tuned E-C). I need a conventional 5 string tuned B-G for my main band, so this really isn't getting played. It's a great bass, and I'd love for someone to enjoy it and make music with it.
The bass has inlaid strap locks, and I'll include the strap end of the strap locks The butt end strap lock hole got a little mangled during installation. It's in there solidly, I basically inlaid it with super glue to backup the screw, so it's not going anywhere. It's not the cleanest installation, though so I wanted to make sure to point it out. It wasn't a big deal to me, since your strap would cover it when you play.
Like I said, I really want to see someone use this to make music, rather than see it sit on a stand, so I'm motivated to sell. No serious offers will be refused! Partial trades may be considered.
