For sale: a refurbished 3-ply (maple/poplar/mahogany), 8-lug Slingerland Artists Snare Drum with a chocolate-painted interior, date-stamped October 1966, and a badge serial no. of 114,964.

In April 2017, I brought it to Precision Drum in upstate NY for a thorough reconditioning. They filled some (drilled by someone in the past for a different strainer), rewrapped it in beautiful Antique White Marine Pearl, and leveled and recut the bearing edges.

All hardware down to the last tension rod was polished before reassembly. The original Zoomatic strainer was oiled and got new anchor screws and washers; it works as smoothly as any Zoomatic I've used. The original muffler works well. The hoops are the original COB sticksavers in good condition. The 8 original Slingerland lugs have been polished and insulated to eliminate spring ring. The snare wire is a vintage Slingerland.

Three other parts are brand new on this drum:

- 2 new screws for the post on the snare butt
- 2 new Canopus snare wire belts
- new Evans G1 coated batter head

In other words, this is neither a collector's item nor a project. It's the ideal player's drum: fully serviced, beautiful in appearance, and ready to be tuned up for studio work or live performance.

All the maintenance is done; the bearing edges are perfect. You just get to enjoy the rich, woody, warm sound that vintage Slings are famous for.

The new Antique WMP wrap is prefaded and will look great in contrast with drums of different colors. Or, if you're adding it to your vintage WMP set, I think you'll find it a good match.

It does have a few aesthetic flaws/quirks. Some of the lugs have minor to modest pitting (although no flaking or rust). All 16 tension rods are Slingerland, but two are slightly longer and one is slightly shorter than the standard 2.125" rods. Also, the interior maple ply has one or two barely-visible hairline fractures. This is nearly universal in 3-ply Slings from the 1960s and has no effect on the sound of the drum.

Finally, there's a stamp on the interior that reads: Eddie Knight School for Drummers. (Could be a reference to a music school in Indiana that was founded in 1955.) It's part of the provenance of the drum, so I decided to preserve it.

Secure, fast shipping from NY. Let me know if you have any questions.
