JHS Pedals - LEGENDS OF FUZZ SUPREME - Fuzz

JHS Pedals - LEGENDS OF FUZZ SUPREME - Fuzz

In the late 1960s, Japan was chock full of superb pedal companies and innovations. One of the most sought after effects from this period and this country is the Univox Super-Fuzz Pedal. This effect is a fuzz / octave that transforms any note or chord into a thick, powerful texture. It was first produced inside a multi-effects the size of a large amp head called the Honey Psychedelic Machine (1967) and then re-released a few months later as a pedal as the Honey Baby Crying Effect. . Honey became Shin-Ei and in 1968 Shin-Ei became the leader of guitar pedals in Japan, making effects under the Shin-Ei name and also manufacturing circuits for dozens of other brands including Shaftesbury, Kent, Crown, Jax and Univox in the USA.

Thanks to Pete Townsend of The Who, the Univox Unicord Super-Fuzz version stood out and rose to fame. First produced in a simple, unpretentious metal case (1968), its look was changed to something more appealing thanks to a large rectangle balance wheel with SUPER-FUZZ writing coarse on top (1970). Red and blue, black and gray, white and black, you could even choose your colors.

The Supreme is an exact replica of Josh Scott's favorite Super-Fuzz collection, an extremely rare black and gray model. While each of the early versions of this pedal sounded surprisingly similar, this 1972 model has a certain magic that sets it apart from the rest. Imagine an Octavia Fuzz that got off on the wrong foot: a powerful, screaming and vibrant octave / fuzz, which is always at maximum.

There are 2 additional settings on the left side: Tone engages a midrange reducer which straightens the attack of the Supreme and makes it more docile, Mode engages a JHS mode with a more pronounced octave, thicker mids and more volume / boost available.

If you want to replicate the classic octave / fuzz sounds of Pete Townsend, Black Keys, White Stripes, Beastie Boys and Mudhoney, this pedal is for you!

Features:

  • Settings: Volume, expand.

Please note that we sell European 220/240v versions, most of which can be switched to 110/120v if needed, either directly via the hardware next to the power supply, or via an external power transformer, don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Product Overview
Seattle grunge greats Mudhoney named their debut album after two fuzzes: the Big Muff and the Super-Fuzz. Originally built by Shin-Ei and sold under a number of brand names, including Univox, the Super-Fuzz is a gnarly octave-up fuzz unit. JHS' Supreme is an exact replica of an original Univox Super-Fuzz. Like its predecessor, the Supreme offers rich, screaming fuzz tones with an octave-up overtone. And the switchable "JHS Mode" lets you get an even more pronounced octave effect, if you dare.
