Here we have a mid 60's Framus Strato Star Jazz style bass with everything in fine working order. The bass is a nice takeoff on a Fender bass style but not a copy. Vintage Framus basses were made in Germany during the 60's-70's until the company went bankrupt in 1975. The Framus factory was known for high quality instruments and competed with the American market with their own designs, the strato being styled after a Fender Strat and somewhat like a Jazz or P bass. This bass plays like a dream and is everything it should be out of German craftsmanship.
The electronics include a single pickup with chrome cover, volume and tone controls and a two way toggle that just turns the pickup off. All of the electronics work as they should (there is a ground buzz when the pickup is turned off by the switch, I always just turn the volume down on the bass or amp. The bass is routed out under the pickguard for a second pickup, these basses were made with 1 or 2 pickups so the switch was most likely placed for pickup select, but this bass was always a single pickup model) There is good tonal variation and the tone in general is great. Original gold/black knobs in place.
The neck is straight, I haven't needed to adjust with truss rod but I assume it works correctly. The action is super low, fast and comfortable. The rosewood fingerboard has 21 frets, including a zero fret, the scale measures 30 1/4" from nut to bridge (short scale). There is a muting bridge that works great. The neck is pretty thin, measuring 1 3/8" at the nut and 1 7/8" at the pocket. This bass has the fender lawsuit headstock with 3 original chrome framus tuners and one new framus tuner. The tuners are the rare white drums with white buttons (deeply yellowed) I have the 4th original tuner that I will include, the botton was broken off of it so I replaced it with the new (somewhat) matching tuner. 2 original ferrules, 2 missing. The original Framus logo is present. The neck has been refinished clear with a clear headstock.
The body is in nice vintage shape, a few dings, some very light scratches and scuffs. There is some finish checking,no buckle rash. The pick guard is nice, there is a small piece missing by the jack, covered with chrome finish washer. The original chrome thumb rest in place. The bass is nice and glossy with a gorgeous 3 tone sunburst finish.
The bridge is original and adjustable with mute system working. The original chrome bridge cover is in place. All chrome is without pitting or marking.
Round wounds will come detuned for shipping.
There is a appropriate period chipboard case and will be shipped well packed.
