Hoffman amp 50 watt plexi style head
This is an early 50-watt version of the Plexi style circuit that Doug developed and sold. He most often sold these in 30, 50 and 100-watt versions. This early version has a blue powder coat metal enclosure to house the chassis. The power tubes are EL34’s can be rebiased easily to use kt66, 6L6, 6V6, even 6550 tubes. Tuki cover and original paperwork included. I linked a fine player who demo’ed his pedals thru one of these.
The Master volume to throttle back the db’s. The bright switch to add a gain stage boost that really takes a plexi to the next level. Built like a tank, has a quiet fan to cool the tubes. Impedance selector for 4/8/16 ohms. Meticulously crafted. Rare. Lots of fun.
This is an amazing amplifier. This was handbuilt in 1995 by Doug Hoffman himself. For those that don't know, Doug Hoffman is a revered amp builder, tech, and electronic guru who got his start in the early days of the boutique amp boom in the '90s - I believe he was building mainly from 1993 to 1999 in Florida. According to sources He spent time building amps for Randall and when he was out on his own did repair and mod work for some of the greats, particularly the amazing Dickie Betts from The Allman Brothers Band. Doug was his go-to Marshall guy. Doug no longer builds amps for sale but now runs a successful amplifier parts business and forum.
