Paulino Bernabe Estudio Model Classical Guitar (1980s), made in Madrid, SpainMadrid, natural lacquer finish, Indian rosewood back and sides, cedar top; mahogany neck with eboy fingerboard, black hard shell case. Paulino Bernabe is considered to be among the elite of late 20th century classical guitar makers; His guitars are of very fine quality and are noted for their powerful, clear and sustaining sound. This "Estudio' model was crafted as a lower priced but fine sounding instrument for serious students and amateur players. Even though built to a somewhat lower price, it is still excellent sounding and playing instrument fully up to the standards of the Bernabe shop. There are no markings beyond the Bernabe label to verify an exact date. Based on the overall design, the guitar was made in Spain sometime in mid 1980s. It carries the same characteristics as the hand-made and signed Paulino Bernabe guitars; all instruments sold with his labels had to meet his standards, were made under his supervision and follow his designs. Although sold as “Estudio” models many sound no different from high end Bernabe models sold with his own signature or personal stamp. The top on this guitar is high grade solid cedar, the back and sides nicely grained solid Indian rosewood. The neck is mahogany with an ebony fingerboard. Playability is excellent and this is a lovely sounding and fine playing instrument, both responsive to a lighter touch and with very good projection. While sold originally as "Estudio" this Bernabe shop instrument is superior as a player's piece to many fancier guitars sold at higher prices.Overall length is 39 1/8 in. (99.4 cm.), 15 1/8 in. (38.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/4 in. (10.8 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 3/4 in. (654 mm.). Width of nut is 2 1/16 in. (52 mm.). This guitar is very well preserved overall showing only some very light signs of use. There are some minor dings and dents on its body (mostly on the soundboard) but no really notable wear. There are no cracks or repairs, the neck, fingerboard and frets are in excellent condition and original Gotoh tuners still work smoothly. This is a fine concert guitar for any playing situation, nicely aged but still waiting to be really played in. Excellent + Condition.
