Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a somewhat rare Electro Voice model 951 crystal microphone with a modern mid-century look all it's own. This unique design came right out of Buchanan, Michigan during the mid 1950's. It comes with the newer (vintage looking) stand shown in which to display.
Pic # 2 shows this very mic in an old E.V catalog that I have showing the mics basic characteristics.
This 951 microphone originally utilized the crystal element but very few of these that I have seen ever have a working element as they just don't hold up well with time due to the crystal elements fragile construction. This mic was originally used for general broadcasting and dispatch use. The mic is omni-directional.
It should be stated that while the mic looks very good overall and is 100% complete it only works with about a 25% signal. It comes alive when cupped in the hand but really this should only be used for prop, display or repair purposes only.
The on / off switch works perfectly as do the threads for both the cable and stand.
As seen in the pics provided...the original painted finish has typical wear. Some scratches, scuff marks and lite discoloration from years of use. The front and side grills are free of tarnish or dents. The E.V badge looks very nice as well. Let the pictures be your guide. I try to provide the most detailed, up close photos available so you know exactly what you are getting and no buyers remorse so common with these older mics. The joint mechanism holds strong. I would rate this 951 an easy 6 + on a scale of 1 - 10.
The 951 takes an older Amphenol 5/8 X 27 cable which is not provided.
This mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you happen to have.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...
The stand is a newer Chinese model made of plastic and metal and has the stock flat black paint scheme. It looks very much like the older mic stands with the 4 tier "waterfall" designed base. It makes an excellent platform for the E.V mic and will do a good job of keeping the mic upright where it belongs. The stand has no signs of wear and comes with the 5 inch painted riser.
Total dimensions with mic and stand are 12 inches tall X 4 1/2 inches wide.
A great piece to display anywhere in your home, office or studio.
As always...
I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.
If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
