Gibson Custom Shop L5-CES, Vintage Sunburst, Made in 1980, Second-Hand Overview by GAK

The Gibson L-5 CES is an exceptionally fine jazz guitar made from the best quality of tonewoods, highly figured Maple is carved for the back and sides, high grade carved Spruce top, figured Maple neck and an Ebony fingerboard adorned with Mother of Pearl inlays. The tonal qualities of the guitar shine through acoustically with a warmth, depth and clarity that is unrivalled for an archtop, the added option of being able to amplify the guitar courtesy of the two Gibson Humbuckers gives you plenty of versatility. There are very few carved guitars built each year due to the scarcity of the top quality wood that is required and the handcrafting involved. The construction process has remained relatively unchanged since the '50s and they have continued this throughout the years to guarantee consistency even including the hand-tuning of the top and back to deliver that unrivalled sound.

This guitar was made in 1980 in Kalamazoo and comes with an upgraded Ameritage hard case.

Good overall condition for a 38 year old guitar with a hairline surface crack in the lacquer on the lower bout, a few scuff marks and some slight dulling of the Nitro finish. This was marked up as a "SECOND" but was appraised by a Gibson workshop for the previous customer which could find no reason for this as it is completely structurally sound without any factory finish flaws. There are often stories from the late 70's/early 80's of Gibson employees marking guitars as seconds so that they can personally buy the guitar at a reduced rate.
